New students learn Vipassana by taking an intensive, residential ten-day course. Instructions are provided by Shri S.N. Goenka on video and audio tapes. One or more assistant teachers are also present to provide guidance and answer any questions about the technique.
The various Vipassana centers in Bihar offer the following courses for new and old students:

To apply online for a course, please read the Code of Discipline and then find a convenient date in the Course Schedule of your preferred Vipassana center, and submit an online application form by clicking on the available dates.
Each student who attends a Vipassana course is given this gift by a previous student. There is no charge for either the teaching, or for room and board. All Vipassana courses worldwide are run on a strictly voluntary donation basis. At the end of your course, if you have benefited from the experience, you are welcome to donate for the coming course, according to your volition and your means.
The items that have been listed below cover all seasons. Please bring items appropriate for the season. Rain-gear is always advisable.
BEDDING
One pillow with mattress per bed is available. It is advised to bring your own bedsheet, blanket and pillow cover.
CLOTHING
Bring enough clothing for the duration of your stay. All students should observe the rules for modest dress as outlined in the Code of Discipline. Shorts, tank tops, transparent, tight or revealing clothing, etc. are not permitted. Tights or leggings should be worn only under a knee length top or skirt/dress. T shirts with provocative messages are not allowed.
Warm clothing - sweater, pullover, shawl (Winter season - November to February)
TOILETRIES
Please bring daily requirements like:
Towel
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Bathing soap
Shampoo
Shaving/Sanitary supplies

Small travel alarm clock
Torch (with extra batteries)
Drinking water bottle

Umbrella during rain months (June - September) and desirable in summer (Mid March - Mid May)

MEDICINES
Please carry stock of medicines regularly used for the entire duration of the course along with the doctor's prescription.
On the day the course starts, ideal reporting time at the center is between 2.00 and 4.00pm.
Also please note:
Stay at the center during a course is permitted only for course participants. Old students wishing to stay at the center to meditate or serve, before or after a course must contact the Center Management.
A light meal and orientation will follow after registration. If arrival is expected to be delayed past 5:00 PM on the day the course begins, please contact the Meditation Center. Post 5.00pm, wait-list students will be admitted in place of applicants who have not informed the center of their expected time of arrival.
The course will end at approximately 7:00 AM on the last day after breakfast and a short clean-up. All students taking a full course, are expected to remain until the very end of the course.
